Art Event #10

Oct 20 2011 Arts Assocation Halloween Event

Halloween at school, zombie models and photography.  They had a dance show, a photo exhibit along with some zombie models who were all nice enough to be photographed and have video taken of them.

This show was a different side to the art department. I showed the creativity in makeup and dance. I found it fascinating how realistic the models looked. I think that the photography exhibit was tremendous as well.

November 14 2011 CSUSM Photoshoot Shaun Anderson

I helped a friend do a photoshoot on campus. Shaun was the photographer for my friend and I. He wanted to practice taking headshots and full body shots so we helped him do this.  This gave me a different perspective on how photography works. Since I have very rarely been in a photoshoot and have never done one my self it was a good learning experience. I count this as an art event because it really was an experience that I would never have outside of school.

Sept 30th 2011 Disney Collections Disney Land CA

The Disney store has a section inside of it called Disney Collections, where they have tons of work and art by Disney artists and animators.

I went to the Disney store for my girlfriend’s birthday to purchase a piece of art. The art at the store is very creative and not just animation. They have among the regular art, art that is inspired by Disney but not done entirely true to how it looks on screen. This inspired me by giving me ideas of how I can change an object or a story to how I see it not how the whole world my interoperate it.

Novemeber 11th 2011 Online Digital Artist http://www.digitalartistdaily.com/

A daily online magazine for digital artists. There are all types of different types of art on the site that change daily. A really cool site to find new artists and new collections.

My favorite picture on the site is called The Ghost of Sherwood. It was made by a member named Russel M. Hossain. It also happens to be one of the highest rated pictures on the site. I like it because it mystifies the image of Robin Hood.  It is also 100% a digital representation.  The depth and detail within the picture is unbelievable.

December 11, 2011 Online Deviant Arthttp://browse.deviantart.com/digitalart/

I was searching the site Deviant art for inspiration for another piece of digital art I was doing and I figured I would use this here as well. Deviant art is a collection of digital art on the web.  It is much like an online gallery in cyberspace, which makes it a really cool place to visit.

Much of the work on deviant art is done in Photoshop. This makes the work inspirational and impressive.  It shows new was and techniques how things are done.  One can hop onto the website and find a picture, I do this a lot, and copy and reuse the techniques seen here. This is a good way to advance your Photoshop skills and to get a good understand of what other people may be doing.

Decemeber 10, 2011  Online Todd Marinovich http://toddmarinovich.com/

This is an online gallery for an artist who is from LA. He went to USC for Art and as a QB for the Trojans football team. I went to the site having just watched a documentary on his life. He was a very big deal when we was in HS and college, but due to drug abuse he had to leave the game. This is his art, he makes it now clean from drugs and I find it very fascinating.

His art draws from his inspirations and his past, much like the work we did this semester. I found that this was a direct connection to our class. He uses the images of football, surfing, and Southern California in a lot of his work.

Wednesday Sept 14, 2011 CSUSM 3 Dance Films

This was a film about dance and how different people can experience it and do it.  The film followed three different dance companies, one full of US Army Vets, Mothers & Daughters, and one of mixed-ability.  It was a story of inspiration and triumph.

This was a video about dance, movement, light, balance, and song.  I think a lot of these elements fit into the works of photography and what we were practicing in class. In video and photography you have to understand how to use light and how to balance the page or the screen. I think that this piece was an understanding of how this was done.

December 9, 2011  Silence & Noise CSUSM

VPA 302’s end of the year event.  This was a gallery showing of all the work that students are Cal State San Marcos have been doing all semester. There was a lot of painting, drawing, photography, and installation works.

This was good to see what other students in our department are doing. I got to see Donovan’s amazing graphic design, and photography by Sierra Lansing.  The students really inspired me to push myself further with my photography and my skills.

Art Event #2

October 22 2011 Tim Burton Exhibit at LACMA http://www.lacma.org/

This was a temporary exhibit exploring the works of Tim Burton. They had a lot of his work from before he was a big time director.  They had a lot of his work from Cal Arts and stuff from his movies.

This was inspiration for me as Tim Burton is my favorite director.  It showed some of his graphic works as well has his drawings and photos. I got to see how a real director does his storyboarding and animation cells.  It also gave me an appreciation of how artists can use animation and drawing to create surreal objects.

November 9 2011

I went down to the Museum of Man to view the exhibits because they had a photography exhibit.  It was a temporary exhibit exploring photography in archeology over the ages. It was really cool to see some of the older photos and older cameras they had on display. It also gave me a good sense of how professional photography looks. I also got to view a few of my fellow CSUSM students photos on display there. That was so amazing to see.

The museum gave me a better knowledge of how to balance a photograph and how the final product looks.
